Well where do I start...well I am a U.S. ARMY captain my name is Cpt. John A. Gates I am 38 years old and I'm dying. I have a brain tumor that is inoperable and I have about six months to live. I'm not looking for pitty or handouts I'm just letting you guys and gals know. And I also wanted to say I really appreciate how you all befriended me without even knowing me. And I will still play the game as often as I can but I also want to spend time with my family before I die.
I would first like to say Thank You for defending OUR country and I'm for sorry that you recently have gotten bad news. Cherish the time you have left, enjoy your family and friends. We are contemporaries(I'm 45)so we remember alot of the same things (i.e Elvis and Bell Bottoms lol)We all owe you a debt of gratitude for your service to our country, again THANX. You will be remembered and you will be missed
Thanks for the support guys...This is a very tough thing to go through. You don't know how much you really appreciate life until it's taken from underneath you. Ive been through some tough things being a soldier but this is by far the toughest...as you might imagine!! Thanks again for the support!!
Just make sure you clench onto each day, and make the most of what you have man. I can imagine this must be so so difficult, but I'd just like to say your a real great guy, and I hope you realise that.....
Well if you knew what I have done than maybe you would not say that. I have done some things that I'm not proud of and hopefully god will forgive me for...Ive been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once in this war. And Iraq in the gulf war also...But what I have done is serve my country. I joined the Army in 1989 when I was 18 years old and I was trained as a scout sniper and let me tell you I'm pretty good with my rifle. I can hit a target the size of a grapefruit over a mile away!
I come from a long line of Military people. I had a brother I don't even remember. He was killed in Vietnam in Sept 1967 when I was 3. My parents have pics of him holding me in his dress uniform. I also have 2 uncles who were lifers, my uncle Gerald was a Major and Gilbert was a Sergent. My father was in WW II and my great - great - great grandfather served under Gen. Grant in the Civil War. I choose to go to college and play football but that never diminished my respect and admiration for those who serve. Any thing you have done in defense of your country will be forgiven I'm sure, you were advancing freedom and liberty for all men and women and what is more righteous and worthy than that. God Bless
Blitz is right. I've always believed if you're at peace with yourself you'll be at peace with your maker. So try forgiving yourself for your mistakes (harder then it sounds I know). You'll be in all of our prayers man.
